The Runner’s Guide to Prime Day
Truthfully, the only thing you need for running is a pair of good shoes (for you) and perhaps a pair of running socks.
AND, I’m frequently asked for my recommendations for gear, technology, and other random running accoutrements. While I’ll always try to shop local as much as possible, a good deal is, well, a good deal. (Not to quote Jimmy Yang or anything).
With Prime Day around the corner, here’s what I have in my cart and have my eye on for myself or others:
Hydrochlorous Spray- for my acne-prone runners, I wouldn’t say this is the holy grail, but it does give me somewhat of an exhale when I know I have a long sweat sesh ahead or a drive home.
Kinesiology Tape- call it a placebo, call it whatever, however, it works for me, especially throughout multiple marathon seasons when current flare-ups occur or post-healing experiences. Extra sticky for my extra sweaty runners works actually super well!
Face SPF- I’m over here trying to prevent and mitigate as much as possible. Growing up in Miami, I thought my skin was BFF with the sun, and well, I now see the benefits of SPF and a hat! I personally love ELTA for acne-prone skin!
Hidden Comfort Socks- For shorter runs, I do like the hidden dry, but the long runs in this heat and humidity? Those feel like wet bathing suits on my feet, so opting for the comfort gives some cushion for the sweat and toenails love them!
Yoga Toes 1- Hands down, one of my absolute must-have recovery tools. These have been in the number 1 spot since I received them as a holiday gift back in 2011. Love these for sitting around, lounging, and legs up the wall. They’re super helpful in giving space to the muscles, tendons, and all the inner workings of your feet, especially after being holed up in shoes and tighter footwear.
Yoga Toes 2- Big fan favorite of these during a yoga practice and/or walking around. You still want to gradually scaffold the time you’re wearing them, even though they’re a bit less aggressive than the other pair.
Bone conduction headphones- These are great for any movement exercise where you’re outside and need to be aware of your surroundings and/or just don’t want something inside your ear. (Sensory yuck with inner ear headphones with sweat. Ask me how I know it may cause ear infections..) From my understanding, the open run is generally better for audiobooks and podcasts, and the pro has better music and mic for phone calls. Definitely would like to upgrade soon!
Menstrual Cup- Menstruating humans, this is a GAME CHANGER. GAAAAME CHANGER. Once I started using this, I’ve never looked at anything else the same, ever.
Yoga Blocks- Any will work, and personally, I favor the cork ones since they’re typically non-slip. Blocks are wonderful for, yes, a yoga practice, and also calf stretches, ankle elevation, and tons of post-training resourcing and recovery.
Percussion Massager- True or false, I can’t fully tell you; however, I was once told (by a trusted physical therapist) that percussion massagers are not actually all made the same, and the “brand” may matter. Either way, these are one of my favorite tools in my toolkit.
Compression Boots- I have my eye on these after my friend, Galit, recommended them to me. Fingers and toes crossed, these are a Prime Day deal!
*NOTE* I am not advocating for any specific brand nor is this a paid endorsement. These are all products that I personally use.
